Presidents Message

What a weekend we have in store this weekend.

On the Pitch

Under 20s

The Harry Gale Cup final is scheduled for this Saturday 27th April in Energia Park against Galwegians (3pm Kick off), the squad know that they will need to produce the same performance that they produced in the league against the same opposition.

All support required and welcome on Saturday for this group of talented young men

Just to note that you will need a ticket to get into Energia Park (no cash accepted) – see attached link for purchasing tickets (€11 for adults and €6 for children)

Off the pitch

The Senior Players Awards Ball take place on Saturday night. This black-tie event is now in its 2nd year is a celebration of the season just past and the players awards across the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Under 20 XV will be presented on the night. Many thanks go to all those behind organising this event and the sponsors of the individual awards.

Rugby (youths)

Unfortunately, our combined Under 18s CDS Girls team lost to the Panthers (21 – 17) in the Division 2 League final – there was great support for the combined team on the day in Carlow and much credit go to the whole squad and coaches for getting to the final and putting a superb performance.

The Under 14 boys take on Greystones in the Metro Division 1 final this Sunday 28th April. Kick off at 12noon in Greystones, all support welcome.

I would also like to congratulate Roisin Ridge and Ivy Lyons who have been selected for Leinster and Metro Training Squads respectively this summer, Best of luck girls.

2024 Seapoint Annual Mini Blitz

I am reliably informed that the plans are finalised and in place for this Sunday. Prayers are being said for fine weather on the day.

A couple of facts about the event (just to wet the appetite)

– over 2,500 rugby players  (boys and girls);

–  the 42nd year of Seapoint Rugby Blitz;

– 44 clubs from all 4 provinces and Cambridge from England, 163 teams (incl, 20 Girls teams);

– 150+ dedicated volunteers (look out for the special polo shirts);

– 600 matches scheduled across 33 pitches

– special guests including Leo the Lion will be there to greet the players and some other special guests (to be revealed on the day);

– Also planned a range of activities, including a live DJ, BBQs and family games.

The Blitz embodies the best of what this club is about; community spirit, volunteerism and sportsmanship, bringing together thousands of young players to show off their rugby skills on the fields of Kilbogget. I have watched this event grow year on year and I am looking forward to welcoming everyone next Sunday.

There is a huge operation that goes into organising the “Blitz” and my thanks (on behalf of the entire club) go to the organising committee, the event sponsors and 150+ volunteers who make the day possible.

I would encourage members who aren’t involved to come down and sample the special atmosphere that is the Seapoint Blitz on Sunday.

Volunteers

As I have done every month and will continue to do so, I would like to compliment all our volunteers (both on and off the pitch). Fielding teams across all levels and age grades takes a huge effort and organisation, this is a huge achievement and is down to dedication by players, coaches, committee members, supporters, parents, facilities, sponsors and most importantly a hugely welcoming environment for all our players.

We are constantly looking for volunteers in all areas of the club so I would appeal to members to ask themselves if they are thinking about any matters in the club, can they assist in any way, if the answer is yes, talk to any member of the executive, we’ll have a role for you.
