President’s Christmas Message

President’s Christmas Message

May I take the opportunity of wishing all the members and friends of Seapoint Rugby Club a Happy Christmas and a healthy New Year.

The 2021/22 season is now well underway and we have 2 pieces of silverware to celebrate already. The first team won the Colm O’Shea Cup and this was emulated in fine form by our Under-20s who triumphed in the Harry Gale Cup. Great thanks to all the coaches, supporters, managers and most of all, the players who thrilled us in the early season.

Seapoint are sitting on top of the table in the Leinster League at year end! There is all to play for in the new year with 5 matches still to go. We look forward too as many of you as possible coming to support the team as they push on. Our healthy playing numbers on our 2nds and 3rds has added strength in depth and has enabled us to navigate many of the challenges posed by Covid during the year.

The Under 20s are also top of the table in the J P Flanagan tournament. They have produced some cracking matches while playing exceptional rugby. They play an entertaining brand of hard fast rugby so please try and make some time to see these great guys in action in the new year also.

Our mini and youth section continues to go from strength to strength. Along with the Dragons, the boys and girls, coaches and parents, continue to add to the culture and sense of fun in the club.

After the challenges and delays caused by Covid our new facilities are almost complete. Visiting teams comment on how impressed they are by the dressing rooms and showers and the new gym is a great asset to the club. More importantly our own players now have the facilities to match their ambitions.

We should also remember our absent friends at this time of year. We have lost some our most illustrious members during the year. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha uaisle.

With Covid still managing to mess up our lives, let us all look forward to the new year. Let’s try spend more time supporting all our age grades and celebrating the wins, large and small, in the best community based rugby club in Ireland.

Nollaig shona agus ath-bhliain faoi mhaise daoibh go léir
