Tag Rugby is an exciting, yet simple, mixed non-contact sport, played by men and women, girls and boys of all ages and abilities. There are no scrums or line-outs and tackling is strictly not allowed. The game has been designed to be enjoyed by all players from beginners to experienced players and players with special needs and different abilities.
The Seapoint Dragons were established in January 2012 as a result of an initiative among a number of clubs within Leinster Rugby. Our aim is to provide children and adults with additional needs, an opportunity to learn and play tag rugby in a safe, enjoyable and exciting environment and in doing so we look to develop their skills and confidence.
The players, who are both male and female, all have additional needs. Our junior squad caters for players between the ages of 8 and 14, while our senior squad caters for players from 15 years and above with no upper age limit.
We train each Sunday morning at 9:30am – 10.30am in Seapoint RFC at Kilbogget Park.
Our coaching staff comprise of a team of dedicated volunteers drawn from the community and the club. We also have support from Transition Year students in who provide us within invaluable assistance at our training sessions.
We look forward to growing this initiative and using tag rugby as a means of providing children and adults with additional needs a sense of fun, teamwork and inclusion and are now actively seeking new members
