A superb 32-28 win on Sunday for Seapoint U20s in their Premier 2 league game against local rivals Wanderers. A dominant display from the pack set the platform for this crucial win that moves Seapoint up to 2nd behind leaders Galwegians.
Seapoint led 10-7 at half time in a tight affair with Malachy Brown pouncing on the loose ball to score after the pack demolished a Wanderers scrum against the head. (This was particularly enjoyed by the front row union of Tommasso, Luan & Lewis). Captain Leon Pierron McCann converted and added 3 points with a well struck penalty to lead 10-0.
Credit to Wanderers who fought back and took advantage of a yellow card for Milo Quinn. Wanderers centre Ronan Mahon powered through 3 weak attempted tackles to score a great individual try and leave the score 10-7 at the break.
Seapoint went up a gear early in the 2nd half. Hooker Luan Moloney was like a rampaging bull as he burst through 4 tackles and sprinted clear from 40 metres for a superb individual try. This was shortly followed up by full back Charlie Brady ghosting through a gap and putting on the after burners from 60 metres out to score after a clever set piece backplay.
Wanderers kept in the game with some nice scores from their dangerous back 3, but it was fitting that player of the match Luan Moloney secured the win and Bonus Point with his 2nd try after another strong lineout maul from the pack.
Well done to all involved, particularly the management team of JP Finlay, Victor Brophy and Noel O’Dwyer who somehow got the pitch in playing order after all the rain (albeit they rubbed out the touchlines with all the sand they put down : ) Their replacement lines were more curved in appearance, with the pitch almost looking like an Aussie Rules Oval in the end! Well done to all involved
