This was the 2^nd leg of the JP Flanagan Prem 2 league qualifier and highly anticipated by the home crowd that showed up in numbers to support this developing young side.

Fans will recall it was all square coming into this so all to play for

Seapoint got off to a dream start at the 10-minute mark with another super run by Shane Gevero to split the defence and then an off load to captain Charlie McLoughlin to get over the line. The ever-dependable Sam O’Donovan bagging the extras it was 7 nil to the home side.

There would be a penalty kick added to Seapoint’s tally but then at the 24 min mark a strong Greystones pack pushed over to make it 10 – 7 to Seapoint at the break.  Literally nothing in it after 3 halves of Rugby

The second half kicked off and it wasn’t long before a rejuvenated Greystones side chalked up the first score with a converted try and went in front for the first time in this match. 14 – 10 to the visitors.

A couple of injuries were then picked up by Seapoint forwards when they least needed it with Tom Chadwick and Joe German leaving the filed of play with still 25 mins of game time left.  The Seapoint bench taking to the pitch and prepared to leave nothing out there.

A penalty and converted try by Greystones then followed as the pressure was mounting on a Seapoint team further depleted with injuries bringing score with 15 mins to go to 24 points to 10

However, as we have seen this Seapoint team will not give up and shortly after Sam Noone went over to bring some hope back to the home side 24 – 15

Unfortunately, this was short lived as Greystones pulled one back within minutes under the post and get the conversion 31 – 15

Despite a late rally and full squad involvement there just wasn’t enough in the Seapoint tank to produce a dream comeback and it was Greystones with another converted try to bring the game to a close at 38 to 15.

Super match for the neutrals and disappointment for the underdogs on this occasion. U20s League starts formally next week with a home game to Naas.  Not much of a turnaround time to review injuries and lots of work for the backroom staff to get the team ready for that challenge.
