President’s New Year Message

Presidents January Message

Happy New Year to all members and friends of Seapoint Rugby Club

Eventhough the weather has taken a turn to a more chllier aura, things continue to heat up both on and off the pitch in our club.

Upcoming Off the Pitch Events

Friday 19th January – there is a fund raising night for the Under 17s trip to Lisbon. A night of Jazz featuring Jazz in the Round and Cold Duck Time (tickets €12.50 on Eventbrite) in the clubhouse – should be great night and all support welcome.

On the Pitch (Senior Rugby Update)

1st XV beat Suttonians last Saturday with a late late show to maintain their 3 point lead in the Leinster League. There are no easy games in this highly competitive league and it is no different this Saturday as we welcome 3rd place and reigning champions, Bective to Kilbogget Park for what should another cracker if the AIL Junior semi-final before Christmas is anything to go by. All support welcome for this crucial game (kick off 2.30pm).

2nd XV beat Suttonians to maintain their good form in the 2nds League where they currently lie 3rd, this Saturday they also take on Bective (kick off 1pm) who are unbeaten thus far. All support welcome.

3rd XV beat BGF Ravens last Saturday to maintain their unbeaten League campaign to date and they currently lead Metro 7 with 7 wins out of 7. They are away to St Marys College (currently 2nd) in a top of the table clash on Saturday, 20th January with 2.30pm kick off. All support welcome.

The fixtures as currently known are on the club website – these are subject to change, so keep an eye for any updates or changes. All support for all teams is always welcome.

Rugby (Under 20s Update)

The JP Fanagan 3 League campaign is up and running with the team lying 3rd having won their last 4 games and they take on Coolmine at home, this Sunday 21st (kick off 2.30pm). This is a young squad who have really gelled together as a squad, All support welcome.

New players at all levels from under 20s to 1st XV are always welcome in our club so if you know anybody looking to join or switch clubs, they will be welcomed in traditional Seapoint fashion and they can make contact with any members of the Rugby committee at rugby@seapointrugby.com

Milestone reached

I would to congratulate our club captain, Zac Jungmann who played his 100th League (AIL and Leinster League) for the 1st XV last Saturday and led from the front as the 1st XV marked the milestone with a bonus point victory.

Rugby (youth and minis)

Despite the inclement weather, Sunday morning and most weeknights during the week are a hive of activity among all age groups, the future of the club is in their hands and it is great to see the large numbers at all age levels. League campaigns have started and are at different stages, it is great to see the club fielding at all levels (boys and girls)

This Sunday, the Under 13 boys have 2 league ¼ finals against Coolmine and North Meath both with 10.45 kick off.

The Under 14 girls kick off their Cup campaign away in Naas on Saturday 27th

As always, any kids whether new members or returning ones will be welcomed with open arms, the more the merrier.

Volunteers

As I did last month and will continue to do every month, I would like to compliment all our volunteers (both on and off the pitch). Fielding teams across all levels and age grades takes a huge effort and organisation, this is a huge achievement and is down to dedication by players, coaches, committee members, supporters, parents, facilities, sponsors and most importantly a hugely welcoming environment for all our players.

There is a real buzz in the club at the moment and that is a reflection of the work that is being put in by so many people.

We are constantly looking for volunteers in all areas of the club so I would appeal to members to ask themselves if they are thinking about any matters in the club, can they assist in any way, if the answer is yes, talk to any member of the executive, we’ll have a role for you.

2024 Annual Dinner

Save the date – Saturday 11th May 2024. We plan to celebrate the club’s 90th Anniversary in style – more details over the coming weeks.

2024 Seapoint Annual Mini Blitz

I am reliably informed that the gang are back in action and planning has started in ernest for Sunday 28th April.

As I said in December, roll on 2024.

C’mon the Black, Blue and Green

Yours in rugby
