President’s Message

New Seasons Greetings to all members and supporters and welcome back to the kick off for another year of super rugby at the club! I hope everyone has had a nice summer, enjoyed the break and have refreshed the batteries for what promised to be another packed season ahead through every squad level in the club.

I would like to sincerely thank the membership for the opportunity to serve as your president for the coming season. I would also like to thank outgoing President Mick O’Toole for his dedication, hard work and eternal optimism as he served 2 terms, steered us out the far side of the pandemic, supported the building work completion and covered off many of the financial activities in the past year. A very hard act to follow indeed. Many thanks Mick.

Personnel from Pitch side this season has some changes and some continuations. Congratulations to incoming Club Captain, Zak Jungmann, Senior head coach Adam Philpott and Senior team manager Declan Keegan. The U20s Head Coach is Stephen Flood and managed by John O‘Donnell and John Montayne. Sean Burke continues as head of MY Section ably assisted by a cast of over 100 + coaches / assistant coaches etc covering all the grades from Girls and Boys sections and the famous Dragons teams.

I would like to wish all age grades, categories, squads, teams all the very best for the season ahead and let’s take pride in our club that we are turning out a full compliment across every team this year for the first time in many seasons. This is a huge achievement and is down to dedication by players coaches, committee members, supporters, parents, facilities, sponsors and most importantly a welcoming environment for players.

We can see that work continued in the off season particularly at the rear of the club with the completion of our patio area and ‘the ruck’ coffee shop seating. This is an excellent addition to our facilities and may I say a ‘damn fine cup of coffee’ is guaranteed. We will have a ‘Formal Opening’ of the clubhouse during this season so keep an eye out for that in the coming weeks. There are so many names to thank for what has been achieved as you can imagine so will keep the formalities for the celebration day.

As you can see our club continues to grow and with that comes the need for additional volunteers across all areas. If you have a spare hour or two apart from game time, please do step forward and let us know. As the old saying goes ‘many hands make light work’. All skillsets welcome – there is plenty to go around both on and off the pitch – so do get involved.

That’s it for now and will update again later in the season. When no doubt it will be damper and a bit chillier (hard to imagine as I write this now!)

Very much looking forward to the year ahead

Thank you

Barry Chadwick
